Back To White...

Hello there!

Well today marks our first official back-to-reality day here...aka - back to school!! I'm always a little conflicted on these days. Yes, the kiddos are definitely ready to get back there to meet up with friends and kick those spongey little brains back into gear...and yes, mummy's head may need a small break from all the NOISE of the last 6 weeks...but on the other hand it's so nice having them around (did I say that?! ;)) ) and so good to just laze about together and make up plans for the day on the day etc etc...

Anyhoo...

What am I doing with myself now you may (though I'm pretty sure you are not) ask??

Well painting...of course!!!

Actually I haven't let something as small and insignificant as Xmas and summer holidays interfere with any plans I may or may not have had. The painting bug seems to just strike at any old time for me and when it does it's pretty useless (just ask Mr WF) to try and stop it. Just give in and paint is my motto.

Latest project being this little desk/table call-it-what-you-may that has been living in our hallway for probably a few years now in the exact state we bought it in, from a junk shop, Now I love the shabby distressed old and chippy look as much as the next chick however this was kind of bordering on just plain stressed and shabby. I could never quite decide what exactly to do with it. I finally took the plunge and decided to just strip it right back to timber..however that kind of proved trickier than first thought. So it sat for a bit longer, neglected and embarrassed in the hall until I made the second decision to paint it black. After about 5 minutes I made a swift third and final decision to just wipe the slate clean, grab a tin of trusty WHITE paint from the shed and paint it the damn colour I should have done years ago!!!

Aaaaahhhh......So.Much.Better. Just needing a pair of handles...thinking shell and painted white to blend right in and keep it all clean looking...

Not sure she will continue living her days out in the hallway...I'm on the hunt for a bigger piece of furniure for in here...probs timber..probs of asian origin..but for now this is doing nicely...

Next up on my painting chopping block is a set of drawers,..also going the white way...after painting them a charcoal colour only about..ahem..a month or so ago...ahem...

Anyone else on a painting rampage?? Repainting objects that still pretty much have the smell of fresh paint from the last colour you splashed on them???

Enjoy the rest of your week folks

See you soon...

Easy Caramel Slice.....

Good afternoon out there!! We are enjoying a kind-of lazy Sunday at home today...aaanndd doing a spot of baking so I figured why not share one of our recipes with you guys...

This is a quick and easy no-bake slice my kids LOVE...of course!!...it's a slice...it's a caramel slice...what's not to love for heavens sake!!?!

My eleven year old daughter whipped this up...icing and all...it may not have made THE prettiest pics but I absolutely love that she's experimenting and enjoying playing in the kitchen lately...a fab life skill not to mention really handy to live with!!

Ok...on with the important business...

                                                                   Caramel Slice

Ingredients

1 packet Marie Biscuits -crushed
3 tablspns condensed milk
4oz butter - chopped
2 tablspn brown sugar
1 tablspn golden syrup

Method

1. Throw all ingredients MINUS the biscuits into a large-ish saucepan and stir over a low heat until everything is all melted together. But don't let it boil. (gettin bossy!!?!!)

2. Take mixture off the heat and toss in the crushed biscuits...stir through.

3. Scoop and press the mixture into a lined slice tray. Pop in the fridge to cool.

4. Once cool spread vanilla icing on top. We added 1 teaspoon of custard powder to the icing for a little extra something (not sure what that something actually is but it tastes really good!?)

5. Pop your iced slice back into the fridge until all is set then pull out..cut into pieces..and ENJOY!!!

As usual would love to hear if you try this...

There are now chocolate banana muffins being whipped up in the kitchen as I tap away here...mmmmm...smelling goooood too!!

Have a fab week lovelies...I'm hoping to pop back in here later in the week with a few finished painting projects...

See ya soon.....

New Year Scores......

Good morning out there!!

And belated Happy New Year?!!! Let's make 2015 FUN yes? Yes!!!

So...I thought what better way to start the year than with a little show and tell sesh of my brand spankin new second hand used purchases...hhmmm.....

You like?? Personally I love!! And I will love them even more when I find a permanent home for them...and some sticks or flowers or something to plop in the vase, vessel thingy.

I stumbled across these lovelies whilst on a family outing last week. A family outing which just so happened to cruise right past the front of a little old country second hand store. Funny that ;))

Now let's have a little chat about this cowhide shall we.....

And the fact that it was love at first sight!! I have been secretly lusting after a cowhide floor rug for quite awhile now...one under our dining table would look pretty darn fabulous I believe...however in reality, well our reality anyway, it just wouldn't be feasible considering the cost of them and the fact that it would be filthy with tomatoe sauce and squished peas within a week and would drive me CRAZY!!! Sooooo.... back to my teeny tiny floor rug as I like to see it...it's the perfect solution I think. It can be plopped all about the house for me to admire and not a squished pea or blob of sauce gets near it...just wishing I had've picked up a few more to bring home with me. Think I can feel another family outing coming on soon.....

Ok...I'm off to play on a yoga mat...then play in the kitchen...then hopefully get some play in with my knitting needles...

It is the holidays after all.....

Have a great day peeps!!!
