A winters walk...

Heading outside today. Well not literally, it's waaay too cold and wet to move very far away from the fire!

However, when we did take a wander earlier in the week....

we soaked up the gorgeous winter sunshine. Well rugged up of course!!.....

beautiful blue skies.....

A Cosy Winter Project....

A little winter knitting by the fire today...

This is a really really easy scarf I knitted up with some wool I had laying about. Its a lovely chunky yarn, can't remember the ply (its been laying about for quite awhile!) but definately thicker than an 8ply.

Using size 5 needles I just cast on 36 stitches and knitted a garter (every row plain) stitch until it was the length I wanted, then sowed the two ends together. Easy!!

I love how I can just toss it over my head, get some much needed warmth and I'm not going to get any 'ends' flapping about.

I'm off to the gorgeous local wool shop now to pick out my next project.......

French Tea Cake/ Donut Cake

We've been doing abit of baking here. One of our all time favourites is this very yummy French Tea Cake. Or as it is known in our house...Donut Cake!! Not sure why it is called French tea cake but as anything with the word french in front of it instantly sounds so much nicer, I'm sticking with it!!
I'm pretty sure this recipe originally came from my nanna. It reminds me of her anyway which I like.

See, looks like a giant donut!!!

Ok, so here's the recipe. It all seems abit odd and backwards the first time but trust me...it all comes together and tastes delicious!!!

                                                               French Tea Cake

1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspn vanilla
1 cup SR flour, sifted
pinch of salt
1 tablspn melted butter

1. Seperate the egg white from the yolk. Add salt to the egg white and beat with mixer until stiff.

2. Add the sugar gradually and keep beating until the mixture stands up in peaks. Then add in the egg yolk and mix that in well.

3. Now stir in the milk and vanilla (this is where you start thinking "what is going on with this recipe?!" but   trust me, it all  comes together!)

4. Stir in the flour and lastly the melted butter.

Pour mixture into a greased ring tin and bake in a moderate (170-180 degrees) oven for about 20 mins.

Once the cake is cooked tip it out onto a cake rack and brush the top with melted butter
and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar (I use about 1 teasp of each and mix up in a cup)

Now eat and enjoy!!!

Oh and you can spread some butter on your pieces of cake, especially delicious when the cake is still warm.

See, EVERYBODY will love this!!!........
